Week 16- Final Post
Poland - Final Post The main natural hazards that Poland faces is flooding, and coastal hazards. Much of which I've talked about on this platform. Coastal hazards however are of much threat to Poland; thus the country deals with floods, rise in sea level, and coastal erosion. The entire coastline length (up to 18%) has cliffs and coastal dunes that suffer from the rise of the sea level. Coastal hazards often occur due to the storm surges that Poland faces off of their coast. This is a priority because they suffer immense amounts of erosion that is not only harmful to their coast but to ecosystems. Mitigations would be as extensive as reservoirs, flood dykes, polders, dry reservoirs, and bypasses. Currently Poland has implemented gryones which reduce longshore drift and trap sediments. Dykes, water canals, and storm gates also help to improve drainage which all aids in reducing the coastal hazards present in Poland.
